Description

With his brief marriage to Anne of Cleves annulled, King Henry VIII immerses himself in a new relationship, this time with the teenager Katherine Howard. While Katherine's arrival is marred by the loathing of Henry’s daughter, Lady Mary, and dogged by the shadows of her own amorous past, England's king faces a bloody religious reformation, an uneasy relationship with Scotland, and intrigue within the royal court fueled by those with designs on the throne. As Katherine’s infidelity and failure to produce a son sentences her to an all-too-familiar fate, the King marries Catherine Parr as England enters an ill-advised war with France that takes its toll on both Henry's fragile health and his army's strength. And as the showdown between Catholics and Protestants exposes religious fault lines across Europe, Henry's egomaniacal madness reaches new heights as his kingdom threatens to implode.

  • But by now Henry is obese and smelly

The Tudors, (from Season 1 through to Season 4) is a brilliant TV production full of lavish costume; well portrayed sensuality; indescribeable terror; and harsh punishment. It is well acted, well scripted and quite accurate historically. Of course the one thing that is not displayed by this season's continuing Henry is his ageing; his obesity; and his alleged putrid odour by the time of Season 4. Indeed Henry at his betrothal to Catherine Howard was almost 50 (30 years her senior), about 21 stone/140 kilograms, and had a putrid festering ulcer in his thigh, which had to be drained once per day.

This is a great TV show that has excellent cast and great acting. I have watched all 4 seasons and did not want it to end. The stories, the acting, the costumes and the characters are second to none. I wish there are more of this type of TV shows around.

The first episode doesn't disappoint with the usual lots of intrigue. Wonderful scenery, fantastic costumes and lead characters, with a possible question of Queen Katherine. As a relatively new character making her entrance late in season 3 I feel we are still getting to know her. Maybe it's a personality or age thing. As for the rest of the cast - the actors have their characters refined and don't disappoint. If you enjoyed the previous three seasons you'll enjoy this one. Don't start with season four - start at the beginning of season one as the journey is worth it. The soundtrack is very "Tudors". I can't wait for the rest of the espisodes to be shown and available.

This is without a doubt one of the best Tv series of all time. Showtime coupled with awesome British production values, cast and quality - combined with a historically aligned story, close to truth script and fantastic performances, make this a must buy. I cant believe that it has to end , but i cant wait for this season!
