Description

Elementary follows eccentric Sherlock as he escapes to Manhattan where his wealthy father forces him to live with his worst nightmare – a sober companion, Dr. Watson. A successful surgeon until she lost a patient and her license three years ago, Watson views her current job as another opportunity to help people, as well as paying a penance. However, the restless Sherlock is nothing like her previous clients. He informs her that none of her expertise as an addiction specialist applies to him and he's devised his own post-rehab regimen – resuming his work as a police consultant in New York City. Watson has no choice but to accompany her irascible new charge on his jobs. But Sherlock finds her medical background helpful, and Watson realizes she has a knack for playing investigator. Sherlock's police contact, Capt. Tobias "Toby" Gregson, knows from previous experience working with Scotland Yard that Sherlock is brilliant at closing cases, and welcomes him as part of the team. With the mischievous Sherlock Holmes now running free in New York solving crime, it's simple deduction that he's going to need someone to keep him grounded, and it's elementary that it's a job for Watson.

Every actor performs to a great standard and the show is a lot more interesting than I expected. I was kind of disappointed it was another crime show, but Sherlock is so entertaining that you just want to keep watching. Probably not worth $60 but 4 stars all the way

I am hooked, i don't normally watch a lot of TV, but the pilot was different and the whole series thus far has been quirky and witty and cleverly written. Having Watson as a female is a great twist, and keeping close-ish to the Conan Doyle characters without overstepping boundaries has been a very good idea. i am looking forward albeit with a little trepidation to season 2, hopefully it will be as fun and as well scripted as season 1.
  • Was a bit dubious...

When I saw that the makers had "mixed it up a bit" by replacing John Watson with Joan Watson/Lucy Lui, I'll admit I was very skeptical and a little worried that it would be even okay (well, I'm a Sherlock traditionalist...). I must say though, it is an excellent series with fine acting (ESPECIALLY the Leads) and some robust and twisting story lines. There are the traditional pieces to keep us novel-readers happy and the heavy under current of Sherlock's addiction make for some powerful scenes. This focus shift has a lot of value, in my view. Very different to "Sherlock" so both shows can co-exist. Agree with iTunes rip off at $60 as my only gripe. Watch and enjoy.
