Four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris (Apollo 13), Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe) and Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) and Colin Farrell (In Bruges) star in this epic saga of survival from six-time Oscar-nominee Peter Weir (Witness, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World). Inspired by an incredible true story, THE WAY BACK begins in 1940 when seven prisoners attempt the impossible: escape from a brutal Siberian gulag. Thus begins a treacherous 4,500-mile trek to freedom across the world's most merciless landscapes. They have little food and few supplies. They don't know or trust each other. But together, they must withstand nature at is most extreme. Their humanity is further tested when they meet a teenage runaway who begs to join them on their quest. A compelling testament to the human spirit, this gripping wilderness adventure is "Peter Weir at his hypnotic best" (Telluride Film Festival).

This movie is one of the best I have ever seen. Deeply moving, and a visual triumph . Not to be missed.

I don't know why but this movie really touched my heart. Maybe it's because it shows true human spirit in the worst of places. Proving that there is good in all of us no matter how cruel & evil this world may seem

Beautiful story, great acting! Not sure not it’s a true story! But it definitely kept me entertained.

If you read the book, you will be very disappointed in this movie. If you didn't read the book, you will be very bored with this movie.

I thought the director relied too much on aesthetics and so the story seemed disjointed and not cohesive. Colin Farrell's character added some snap but Ed Harris' character didn't just fizzled toward the end. Honestly I turned the movie off I couldn't take their wandering any more.

Great story of an epic journey! Whether or not it was true, it was a unique tale of a prison escape set against some beautiful wilderness scenes. It held my attention the whole time!
  • True Story

The story is true. Despite the claims. They later found that a man, not the one who wrote book, is the actual man that completed the so called long walk

I am not sure this movie even needed as much dialog as it had. I found it to be beautiful and captivating despite its unsteady pace forward at times...
