Julia, a woman suffering from a degenerative sight disease, finds her twin sister Sara, who has already gone as a result of the same disease, hanged in the basement of her house...Everything points to suicide, but Julia is compelled to investigate what she intuitively feels is a murder case. Determined to retrace her sister’s final steps, she is drawn into a maze of hidden threats and spiralling dread - a dark world that seems to hide a mysterious, malevolent presence. As Julia begins to uncover clues to the truth of her sister’s death, she is convinced that someone is watching her - someone who means her terrible harm. Those close to her begin to disappear and then to die. Her sight gone, confined to her sister’s house, Julia finds herself trapped in a nightmare from which she cannot awake. Will she survive?

  • Another excellent GDT film

Mr. Del Toro is one of the few visionaries of our time; he stands behind films that evoke a certain quality about them, and every shot in this film simply oozes quality out of every pore. The film is clever in many ways; great acting, an intelligent script, and some of the most insane camera work I have ever seen in a film. The way Mr. Morales plays with shadow and light, and how certain elements are obscured depending on the situation is excellent and kept me riveted until the frenzied finale. AN excellent film that really leaves you with a great appreciation for inspired filmmaking.

The story's good, the suspense is well developed and the actors are talented. Still, what caught me the most was the clever ways in which characters were shown on screen. Can't say more. On the whole, they way it's put together give in a sense of originality lost in many other horror films.

I don't really write reviews often but for some reason this movie compelled me to do so. This movie was very well shot, directed, and the actor were also great. It was suspenseful and eery. If you do not mind subtitles you should rent it. I would have actually bought it, if there was an option.

  • del Toro + Morales = Genius

Guillermo del Toro is one of my favorite directors/producers. His movies are so intoxicatingly stylish, every moment is candy for the eyes. On top of that, he is a master of suspense; I remember seeing The Orphanage for the first time - it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire movie. Los Ojos de Julia (Julia's Eyes) did the same. Great acting, great suspense, great cinematography, great everything. Rent and enjoy!

I seldom read reviews, let alone write them. For this movie I make the exception. Belen Rueda is flawless as the determined and needy Julia. The suspense is killer- akin to that of Rear Window. Such a smartly written and executed screenplay. By taking the figurative "in the dark" meaning and applying it literally, the story feels genuine and you can't help but root for Julia and jump at every noise right along with her.
