    I really love the music.
  • Amazing

Spectacular, so much nostalgia, nothing can compare to this childhood kick start
  • Amazing film, but the digital copy falls short

I grew up on the 1977 "The Hobbit" back in the VHS days. It's a film I have watched more times than I can possibly count in my life. My VHS copy is so warn that it is nearly falling apart, so naturally I was delighted to see a digital copy available on itunes. While the film is still the one I fell in love with as a kid, the digital copy has removed the quirky 70s sound effects from many scenes. While this doesn't effect the quality of the movie overall, it definitely irritates someone like myself who grew up loving those small details. The film is just not the same without them in my opinion.
  • Better than the Jackson Hobbit

    By EzraDoctor
You have to understand, growing up the Hobbit movies had not been made yet. So this WAS THE DEFINITIVE HOBBIT STORY FOR ME. Whenever I would watch the Jackson Fellowship of the ring, and Gandalf would say "the incident with the dragon", my mind would come to this.
  • Blast from the past

This was my first foray into the world created by J.R.R. Tolkien, well over 20 years ago, and it still holds up some able to distill the story into a little over an hour and fifteen minutes, I highly recommend it if you wish to introduce your kids into high fantasy.
  • Ok...

I have to say, it looks like a good movie, but it's nothing like the book or new movie. I would rather spend my money on the newer version, the REAL Hobbit.
  • Skip this

Just watch the original animated Lord of the Rings.
  • Still a fun watch!

This was my first Rankin and Bass cartoon as a child, and it's still great today. The sad part is that some of the sounds from the theater and VHS/Beta versions are missing, the spiders scream and the goblin death sounds are the ones that stand out the most. Still, a great movie that I can enjoy with friends or my family at any time. I just wish they had The Return of The King on iTunes as well! They have the Ralph Bakshi classic "The Lord of The Rings", but no Return of The King. What gives?
  • Wonderful Voice Actors and A Memorable Soundtrack

Blended with excellent animation and a haunting “Riddles in the Dark” scene this is strong adaptation that does Tolkien well.
  • Yes! But where is Return of the King (cartoon version)?????

C'mon iTunes, hook us up with the whole cartoon series! We need the Return of the King too!
