Description

We once considered ourselves to be at the center of the universe — now we know that we are just a small spec in a giant cosmos. This season, The History Channel® ventures outside of our solar system in another epic exploration of the universe and its mysteries. With strikingly realistic computer re-creations, you'll feel like you've traveled to the edge of the unknown: visit strange and unfamiliar worlds in "Exoplanets," prepare for the worst in "Cosmic Collisions," and uncover the secrets of our own galaxy, "The Milky Way." And that's just the beginning . . . learn exactly what "Dark Matter" is and how it takes up 95% of the universe; take a front-row seat for the ultimate light show with "Supernovas;" and while most people have heard of black holes (which swallow all matter that they come in contact with), find out more about "White Holes" — which actually create matter.

Since there are so many other reviews here I'll just add one thing. Throughout each episode you're constantly peppered with corny and overly simplistic analogies to explain things. It feels like being in kindergarten class at times. Cosmos is preferred since Carl Sagan is much more direct about explaining things. Overall though The Universe is worth checking out. I'd reccomend renting first.

Such a good show. Explains everything in easy to understand language but doesnt limit itself in expanding your knowledge of the universe. Highly Recomended!!

I was looking forward to watching about universal collisions but that was only covered in the last 5 minutes of the show. If you want to hear 55 minutes of collisional families and planetary collisions then this is your show, if you want to hear about anything else then don't buy this.
  • enjoyable... unlike most television nowadays.

I truely enjoy these episodes. Slightly simplistic and sensational, however, does the lay person really need more? Just enough detail to whet the appetite... I say watch it if you have even the slightest interest in the cosmos, science, technology, or even existentialism, and some relatively free time >=} ...
