This movie will lift all spirits and leave you feeling happy and cheerful. A real treat. Lots of fun with a lot of heart and great intentions. Totally recommend it - the music is really upbeat and it's really obvious that the actors had a ball being in it too.
  • Great coming of age film

I really enjoyed Whip It. The casting was spot on, especially the performances of Ellen Page, Julliette Lewis and Drew Barrymore. The soundtrack was great, very well chosen right from the beginning of the film. Definitely recommended.

  • What No Montage?!

Full of the best things about american indie films: quirky characters, off-kilter humour and an insight into an unseen America. But it is also a departure away from the usual geek hero storyline. It is an extraordinary achievement that it didn't go down the montage route as the main character becomes immersed in an alternative sport. The "underground" nature of roller-derby allows the film makers to exploit a corny "sports team" story line and mix it with an anti-establishment sensibility. Despite a slightly clunky middle section, I absolutely loved it.

We watched the 1st 40 mins of whip it on sat night, it was just like the trailer...little talent, no time taken to build up the characters and a very shallow plot-we both uttered should we turn it off at the same time-I have been better off watching rollerball or slapshot!!
