    Wonderful series characterised by soulful moments and affectionately observed truth. It's restraint was it's strength. This applies to every episode of The Royle Family except this one. I don't know what happened but it became farcical nonsense with A New Sofa and resembled the majority of formulaic sitcoms out there. A whopping disappointment when you look forwards for a year - but we'll always have the 3 series. Go get those, I can't recommend them highly enough.
